Retractable Classic Awnings
Retractable awnings bring new meaning to outdoor and indoor living. They have become the sought after solution for protection against the damaging effects of UV rays while relaxing outdoors. Classic Awning
The self-supporting Classic awning is designed with a durable powder coated aluminum frame, strong lateral support arms, and fitted with only the highest grade acrylic fabrics. It can be manufactured in widths up to 26’ and up to 13’ in projection. Pitch Control is an option for even more protection from sun and moderate rain. The pitch adjustable feature allows the tilt or slope of the awning to be raised or lowered, optimizing both sun protection and use during inclement weather.
Adjustable Valance
The Adjustable Valance is ideal for locations with low setting sun. Built into the front bar and independently operated, the screen can be manually lowered up to 60”. This screen provides relief in the late afternoon, with various mesh options available to reflect the sun’s heat and intensity, while still preserving a clear view. The adjustable valance is also available in solid fabric, which gives the user full sun protection plus total privacy.
Side Panel
Side Panels provide added sun protection when the sun is low on the horizon. They are all custom made; available in solar mesh with densities of either 86% or 92%, or in solid fabric for sun protection as well as total privacy. The Side Panel is manually attached to the awning system using colour matched durable powdered coated hardware.
Wind Assist Braces
In areas where wind is predominant, wind assist braces give you additional stability and peace of mind when the awning is out on those breezy days. Available in lengths of 4’ and 8’, the braces are cut to the required height to meet up with the awning system.
Motorization & Controls
Retractable awning systems combine beauty with functionality. At the convenient touch of a button on a wall mounted switch or on a hand held remote control, one is able to shade and cool any deck, patio, window, terrace or balcony automatically. One single device can control an individual and / or a group of motorized systems from a central location. Control of your motorized awnings can also be achieved from any mobile device using Somfy’s MyLink wireless receiver and specialized app.
Sun and wind sensors allow your motorized systems to automatically react to changing weather conditions. The Sun Sensor reacts to different sun levels, extending your awning automatically to cool both outdoor and indoor spaces. The Wind Sensor automatically retracts your motorized awning when it senses high winds.
FAQs
Are retractable awnings sold in standard sizes?
The arms (which determine projection from the wall) come in standard sizes, however, the width is custom, specified down to the nearest inch.
Can I use a retractable awning for both sun and rain?
Yes. The awning can be used in light rain when supervised, provided there is enough slope for the water to run off. Anything less will lead to water pooling on top of the fabric, potentially damaging the awning's frame and / or fabric.
Can I use a retractable awning during snowfall?
No. Retractable awning systems are first and foremost shade products. A few snowflakes will not harm the awning, but unlike rain, snow will accumulate on top of the fabric until the weight becomes too heavy for the awning to support. Awnings can be used in the winter on blue sky days.
I would like to get a retractable awning, but I don’t see how it would be possible in our space.

Is the fabric waterproof?
The fabric is classified as water-resistant. This means that the fabric will not let water through freely, keeping you dry underneath. However, the fabric will get wet. In poor weather conditions, it is safe to retract a wet awning. If rolled up wet, extend the awning to dry within a few days.
How do I clean my awning?
Fabric gets dirty; it's a fact of life. The fabric can be cleaned easily and is suggested annually. Using a garden hose, spray the top of the fabric to remove dust and pollen. If required, mild soap (such as Dawn or Sunlight) can be used to treat more stubborn spots. Rinse off all soap residue and let the fabric air dry before retracting the awning.
Should I roll up my awning during strong winds? And how strong is too strong?
Yes. Awnings should be retracted during strong winds. Our self-supporting retractable awnings are designed to withstand winds of approximately 25km/hr. and will flex to absorb wind. This means you don't have to leave yourself without sun protection on breezy days. As the user, you are the best judge of wind effecting your awning. If you feel uncomfortable sitting out with your awning extended, it’s time to retract it. Temporary wind assist braces are available for those predominantly windy areas such as lake front cottages and homes backing onto open expanses of land.

Installation Process
Detailed Measuring
A site visit is performed by our lead sales technician. Following a conversation with the client, detailed measurements are taken as all our products are custom manufactured to our clients specifications. A quotation is provided, with frame and fabric samples available for review and selection right on site.
Area Preparation & Installation
Upon arrival, our technicians will discuss the installation process with you, ensuring you are comfortable with every step. The technicians will safely move any furniture from the main working area and will replace the furniture to it’s original location once installation is complete. The installation will last approximately 3-4 hours.
Support
A thorough explanation of the awning system will follow, with an opportunity for any questions to be answered. Rest assured that a detailed information sheet, including contact information, will be left with you for future reference and ongoing customer support.
